Vitali Klitschko v Dereck Chisora (Preview)

Vitali Klitschko

Champion WBC Heavyweight     43-2-0 (40ko's)    40yrs    6f 7+in     Orthodox     Ukraine

Dereck Chisora

Challenger                                    15-2-0 (9ko's)      28yrs     6f 1+in     Orthodox     U.K.

Just how long can  the show  Continue, Vitali Klitchko has been a professional boxer for 15yrs, he's fought 45 times and on Saturday night at Olympiahalle, Munich, Germany he will go for win 44, quite incredible,
His opponent on this occasion is Britain's Dereck Chisora, with just 17 fights to his name, a novice in comparison.
So how long can Klitschko go on, well with out doubt the end is in sight, no matter how brilliant you have been or are, the clock just doesn't stop ticking, go on long enough and father time will have his way,
factors that can play a part in a fighters longevity are.
  • How he lives outside the ring.
  • What shape he's in on fight night.
  • Punishment received

Klitschko gets a big tick on each of the points, a clean liver, always comes in shape an has received very little punishment throughout his career, he certainly didn't look as though he'd slipped to much in his last fight against Tomaz Adamek, posting a bloodless 10th rd tko. I think Vilali could conceivably go on another 5,6,7 who knows, 8yers, Big George Forman was 48 when he had his last fight.
The key lies not with the champion but with the challenger, no disrespect to Klitschko's last 11 opponents but not one could hold a candle to Lennox Lewis, the last person to inflict defeat on the giant Ukrainian either he will have to have a very bad night or someone a cut above the usual suspects needs to come out of the woodwork.

So What of  Del Boy Dereck Chisora, the 28yr old  Zimbabwe born  heavyweight, well he's no wall flower,   in between kissing opponents at weigh ins or taking chunks out of their ear. Mike Tyson style or turning up for one of his most important fight looking like Mr Blobby, he is in fact a very good fighter,
Last time out he travelled to Finland to face hot prospect and hugely touted Robert Helenuis (15-0), Chisora turned in the performance of  his career out punching and out fighting the home town favourite, it was clear to all except those that mattered who'd won, Chisora lost by two votes to one.

Prediction

You don't need me to tell you that Chisora has a mountain to climb if he is to pull off the biggest heavyweight shock since Buster Douglas upset Mike Tyson, beating Heleunis is one thing, Klitschko quite another.
Chisora promises to take the fight to the champion, and thinks that by half way the pace he will set will prove to much and he can get the stoppage in eight rds, a shade optermistyic you might say!
Chisora has only one chance of  victory and that is to take the fight to Klitschko, try to upset his rhythm  get in close and put his punches together in bunches, the left hook could be effective slung over the champions low held right, but  he can't afford to be kept long, Heleunis had his best success when the fight was at range.

Klitschko is surprisingly nimble for such a big man, his height and reach help him slip in an out of range with awkward ease, the jab is his number one weapon setting opponents up for the right, he is also patient, happy to take as long as needed to break his challengers down,
Once again the champion will look to keep Chisora at range spearing him with the jab and forcing him to reach for his punches, it will be interesting to see how Del Boy handles the power of   the champion right hand.
The challenger will need to be in the best shape he's ever been in and must be prepared to press the fight every second of every rd, it should be remembered he's not a big puncher,
But i fear like so many have found before him is that theory is so much easier than reality and for Dr Ironfist to record another win anytime after halfway.

Betwise
Long odds on make Klitschko unbackable and only the big players will be taking 1/3 the stoppage, if you fancy Chisora to last the distance 4/1 is your price, i like Klitschko by late stoppage rd 7-12 @ 11/8
not a great price but worth a punt.
